SGB Closing Ceremony

The closing ceremony cum Christmas bash would be held on the 22nd of Dec from 7.30-9.30pm. It would be held at the Vanda room ( above food haven). The Christmas bash would be filled with fun and enjoyable games such as the icebreaker (passing-the-present), and Christmas auction.

The highlight of the event would be the disco party, where everyone let their hair down and groove to the funky music. There will also be a food buffet style that serves delicious, scrumptious food.

The Christmas bash is to celebrate the festive cheer as well as to celebrate our success of our project, Sharity Gift Box. The event would be a fun-filled one, with lots of games and prizes to be won, and the meaningfulness of being able to spread the joy and love during this Christmas season. The Christmas bash event is a definitely not to be missed for all. So, join us!

Neighbourhood Collection

Date: 02 December 2006
Venue: Yew Tee MRT vicinity

Today is neighbourhood collection (part of Sharity Gift Box @ SP)! I was involved in helping to go door-to-door and collect food items from residents living in Yew Tee.

Upon reaching Yew Tee, we had a short briefing on what needs to be done later on. Soon after, everyone wasted no time in starting with the collection. Because it was the first time for many of us to do a door-to-door collection of items, it was somewhat awkward to approach residents at their doorsteps and ask them politely whether they have any items to donate. After awhile, things got much easier as we got used to all the knocking on doors of the residents.

Initially, there was not many items we could collect from the residents, which were quite disappointing. However, as we proceeded on to the next few blocks, the amount of items we collected were overwhelming! Residents after residents got more and more generous, much to our delights. During the collecting of food items, we somehow caught a glimpse of the many different sides of Singaporeans. Some were extremely kind, where they had already prepared the items way beforehand as soon as they found out about this collection. People who did not know of our collection just gathered what they could offer on the spot, and an aunty even offered us a plastic bag so we could hold all our items inside to make things easier for us! This just shows the more angelic side of Singaporeans.

Every good comes with bad, and of course, we met with crude residents as well! Someone slammed a door at one of us and some refused to open the door. Others took an extremely long time to just get themselves to speak to us because they were lazy to get to their doors.

Through all these encounters with people, it is quite evident that besides those realistic people who only cared about their own welfare, there were still kind souls who would try to do their part to help the poor people in their country! It is actually quite heart-warming for us to know that, and honestly, the whole collection event had certainly made most of our day.

Honestly, many of us had joined SGB @ SP for CCA points or to fulfil our CIP hours. However, at the end of this event, many of us would have changed our points of view. Even if there were no CIP hours to fill, no CCA points to earn, I believe most of us would still get ourselves involved in this meaningful event!

Neighbourhood Publicity

Date: 25 November 2006
Venue: Yew Tee MRT vicinity

Neighborhood Publicity is one of the key events for Sharity Gift Box @ SP. We will be going to Yee Tee area to promote our next event, Collection Day. Well, although it is tiring to wake up early in weekend morning, but, having to help the needy, I feel that is all worthwhile.

After our briefing in SP, we proceed to board the bus and travel to Yee Tee. We get to know more about Collection from the Group Leaders (GL) on the bus. Having good interacting with them, does establish good connections.
After lunch, we went back for more actions.

With experience received in the morning, we are able to handle the publicizing with more confidence. Times flies when you are enjoying it, it’s time to pack and we have our round of sharing on a playground. We have some time of fun there before drizzle came to spoil the fun. However, we did have our fun and I can’t wait for the next event to come up.

Christmas Light Up (Opening Ceremony)

Even as the students made their way to school, there was this sense of excitement and anticipation around the school that something is great is going to happen. It’s the SGB@SP opening ceremony!

After most of our lessons ended, Primers began to gather around LT18A and the Primers Room. All of us were looking forward for a good time later to know more about this project.

It was soon 6pm and people started swarming in to the Lecture Theatre. Although the programme was delayed slightly due to some technical faults, the Primers and students were still kept entertained by the emcees namely Mark and Jianying.

Rock ‘n’ Roll!

The programme finally started and all of us in the LT were having fun with a few icebreakers. Guest like Mr. Lee Ee Tat (staff from SAA) also joined in and that was indeed an encouraging sight. After all the fun and laughter, it was now time for Mr. Lua Sheng Long, chairman of SGB@SP 2006 to tell us more about this project.

The presentation was short and sweet with a video presentation and a simple PowerPoint, but the message across was definitely clear and a lot benefited from it.

Our guest-of-honor, Mr. Danny Lee, captain of SP.Primers then proceeded to light up the Christmas tree as a symbolic act that this meaningful project is officially launch in SP!

If you are thinking that we are a bunch of people just concerned about work, then you are wrong. We even managed to celebrate the birthday of one of our Executive Committee member. Happy birthday Huishan!

Let us work hard and smart for the less fortunate as ONE FAMILY!
